The UP Design Studio in Stuttgart has been supporting ONGO in product development since its inception. UP's expertise in feasibility and materials, as well as its innovative strength in solving the many challenges, are particularly important to us. Thanks to this long-standing collaboration, the design of the ONGO product range is seamless and recognizable as a system for agile working. We asked Stefan Lippert, designer and managing director of the UP Design Studio, what he sees as the challenges and design principles.
What were and are the challenges in designing the ONGO products?
We're aligned with our client: we always want to bring the best product to market. By that, I mean a product that customers simply love, both when they use it and when they look at it.
Which design principles were particularly considered and implemented?
First of all, it's about beauty as we and our customers understand it: simple, plain, clear shapes, minimization.
Second, it's about materials and quality. ONGO can and must meet the highest standards. The colors should convey elegance and freshness, and the feel of an ONGO product must simply be a pleasure to hold.
The third principle I'd like to mention is flexibility. ONGO products must fit into different contexts and be easily adaptable.
And the fourth principle is about balance and stability. ONGO users must feel safe at all times. This is, of course, crucial for objects in the work environment.
How are ONGO products different from the designer's perspective - how do they differentiate themselves on the market?
We're almost a bit stubborn in this regard: people and their tasks are clearly our focus. ONGO wants and must deliver on its promise to inspire people and make their working lives significantly easier and more productive.
When designing objects, we focus on the essentials. It's always about function.
ONGO looks to the future and shows companies, architects, and designers where the journey will lead. ONGO represents a vision of agility and collaboration that will become prevalent in the future.
